NYPA Lobby Day
See the film "New York Faces in Production"
Twenty two NYPA members met with legislators in Albany on February 9, and presented “The Faces of New York Production,” to support the $2.1 billion-five year extension of the New York Production Tax Credit contained in Governor Paterson’s proposed 2010 budget
The short film was produced by NYPA with all donated guild and union professionals’ time from IA Local 52, IA Local 600, Teamsters Local 817, MPEG IA Local 700, DGA and SAG, whom we owe our gratitude. Special thanks to Sound One, CEC, NBCU, MPAA member company New York productions, Silvercup, Kaufman Astoria and Steiner studios.

NYPA Letter to Governor Paterson
January 19, 2010
Dear Governor Paterson,
Thank You.
The New York Production Alliance extends it’s special thanks to you for recognizing the importance of the Empire State Film Production Tax Credit by including it in your budget proposal.
This program brings real income to New York State. It has created thousands of jobs for New Yorkers.
Thanks to your support to authorize extension of credits in 2009, the film industry in New York went to work while other segments of the economy lagged in the recession.
In 2009, the U.S. gross domestic box office set an all time record for revenue, with increased admissions, and surpassing DVD sales for the first time since 2002. History has shown that entertainment is especially popular in bad times. With your leadership, New Yorkers have kept their jobs supplying the product to meet this demand.
As an industry, we are fortunate to have such a workable stimulus plan which brings industry investment dollars into the state economy a year or two before the state redeems the credit on the production company’s tax bill. Data shows for every $1.00 the state allows in the future tax credit, it receives $1.90.
Thank you for your courageous leadership in a time when New York has difficult decisions to make. On behalf of the 50 plus organizations with a collective voice of over 75,000 New Yorkers, we promise you we will support your decision by engaging in the upcoming budget discussions with the Legislature, by launching an education campaign with Business and Labor communities and with a grass roots lobby effort to put a face on the industry.
Film is working for New York. Let’s keep New Yorkers working in film.
Sincerely,
John Johnston
Executive Director
